Shute is in an ideal position for a rustic, relaxing break with the popular Nobody Inn a short stroll down the lane and a public footpath across the fields into the next valley. It is a perfect base from which to explore Dartmoor with its beautiful villages, varied activities and attractions.




Shute is situated on the edge of Dartmoor, England’s biggest National Park. The National Trust's dramatic Castle Drogo and its beautiful formal gardens are just 15 minutes away, whilst Canonteign Falls and Lakeland are also within easy access. Dartmoor’s famous granite tors, breath-taking walks, the Cathedral in the Moor at Widdecombe, the panier market-town of Chagford with its antiques, the historic town of Mortonhampstead, the House of Marbles glassmaking museum, and many other attractions are all just a short drive away.

Haldon Forest just 2 miles up the lane, boasts red and black mountain-biking trails, jumps and competitions, wooded walks, bridleways, a children’s play trail and an art centre and studio. At Shute we can provide secure lock-up facilities for mountain bikes and any other outdoor equipment.


Doddiscombsleigh is a conservation area, with a pre-conquest church, medieval farmhouses, 16th century cob barn and the famous Nobody Inn. The award- winning pub is a 5 minute stroll or stagger (!) down the lane. The Nobody is renowned nationally for its food, locally produced cheeses, extensive collection of 700 well cellared wines, its choice of 240 whiskies, various local farm ciders, Nobodys Bitter and Otter Ale. The Manor Inn with its gourmet menu is a walk across the fields along a public footpath.
Devon’s sandy, south coast beaches are within easy access off the A38.
